Buying gold in the Netherlands: a practical guide for beginners

Gold has been a store of value for centuries. Many investors in the Netherlands keep part of their savings in physical gold as a buffer against inflation and uncertainty. This guide explains the basics, so you can buy with confidence.

Gold bars or gold coins?

Gold bars are the most efficient way to buy gold: the bigger the bar, the lower the premium per gram. Gold coins such as the Britannia, Maple Leaf and Kangaroo are known worldwide and easy to sell in small amounts. Many investors combine both.

Choose a recognised refiner

Buy bars from refiners on the LBMA Good Delivery list, such as PAMP Suisse and Valcambi. Their bars carry a serial number and come sealed with a certificate, which makes them easy to resell anywhere in the world.

What do you pay?

The price of a bar or coin is the live gold price (the spot price) plus a premium for production, certification and handling. Small bars of 1 to 10 grams have a higher premium per gram than bars of 100 grams or 1 kilo. At Eve Gold, the prices on the website follow the live market price.

No VAT on investment gold

In the Netherlands, investment gold is exempt from VAT. This applies to gold bars with a purity of at least 995/1000 and to gold coins that meet the legal conditions. Silver is not exempt: 21% VAT applies.

Paying and delivery

At Eve Gold you pay online when you place your order, by bank transfer, iDEAL/Wero or Bancontact. We deliver insured within the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, or you collect your order free of charge in our shop in Vlaardingen.

Selling your gold later

Keep your bars sealed and keep the certificate. Sealed gold bars bought from Eve Gold are bought back at the spot price. We also buy used gold.
